Tyndall AFB releases update on rebuilding effort

PANAMA CITY — Tyndall Air Force Base released an update on its rebuilding effort on Jan. 14.

The release from the 325th Fighter Wing goes over some milestones in rebuilding the installation over the past year. Hurricane Michael decimated the base in 2018, prompting an undertaking to rebuild as the “installation of the future.”

In 2024 the base completed nine projects and 14 new facilities. Among these was the new headquarters, a hurricane-proofed 27,265 square-foot facility. On the training side, they also opened their new small arms range.

Tyndall AFB also opened a new Child Development Center (CDC) in September. A CDC is a childcare facility specializing in kids aged from 6 weeks to age 5. The release goes on to say that the base made various security infrastructure improvements such as new gates and mobility storage facilities.

Looking forward, other projects in the works for 2025 include a marina, dorms for young airmen and a chapel.

Operationally, a complex for maintenance personnel will accommodate the growing fleet of aircraft. In conjunction with this are some planned upgrades to the aircraft parking apron.

Traffic improvements are also underway at the installation, with several roundabouts under construction.

“The upcoming construction milestones at Tyndall Air Force Base are not just about rebuilding structures — they are about building a stronger, more agile force,” said Col. Christian Bergtholdt, 325th FW commander. “These new facilities will ensure our Airmen are better equipped, housed, and supported, enabling them to maintain their lethal edge and readiness for our mission.”
