Tendon Kohaku: New Perth Japanese eatery opens doors in East Vic Park

A restaurant boasting authentic Japanese cuisine has opened its doors in a bustling south-eastern Perth suburb.

Tendon Kohaku is giving away free matcha ice cream with any tendon, udon or curry rice set order if foodies follow their Instagram and mention them in a story until April 19.

Aside from a range of delicious mains, the already-busy new eatery offers multiple sweet treats, including the viral ‘Bouncing Cat Pudding’.

The Bouncing Cat Pudding allows customers to unleash their inner artist and draw on their dessert-style furry friends with edible charcoal ink.

Despite the zen-inspired interior design, the store — which had its grand opening on March 19 — has been experiencing some chaos with lengthy wait times and sold-out dishes as Japanese food lovers rush to experience their offerings.

Tendon Kohaku released a statement on Instagram stating all menu items are currently available except for their matcha Mont Blanc ice cream.

“Do note that some dishes — especially high-demand items like our beef dishes and cat pudding — may still sell out on the day due to local supplier availability and strong demand,” it wrote.

The popular store thanked customers for their patience and support, suggesting they come early to ensure they get their favourite dishes with limited wait times.

The walk-ins only bar and restaurant is open Wednesday to Monday from 11.30am to 2pm and 5pm to 8.30pm at 765 Albany Highway, East Vic Park, Perth.
