Take 5: The best places in Perth to get your crumpet fix

Gusto Food

South Perth

The fluffy crumpets at this South Perth stalwart are the stuff of legend. Brunch expert Kate Emery is a fan, describing them as: “Fat, soft and sticky.” Which when you are a crumpet (and only then) is high praise indeed. Topped with poached pears, mixed berries, peanut gravel and yoghurt, it;s little wonder these guys are a menu staple.

Sometimes simple does it for breakfast, and the rye sourdough crumpets with whipped butter and house made jam at these slick but low key cafes prove that sometimes good things don’t always have to be fancy.

Moore and Moore

Fremantle

This cute cafe inside an art gallery uses the delicious crumpets from Casella Kitchen and then pimps them into something sublime. With torched banana, coconut maple syrup, bacon, sour cherry and fresh fruits and whipped coconut cream, this is an impressive breakfast dish.

Laika Coffee

Lathlain

This popular cafe makes its crumpets in-house, and while its sweet versions with berry compote, whipped maple fudge and almond praline are pretty divine, we can’t go past the savoury offering. A delicious fluffy crumpet topped with smoked ham, pickled red cabbage, herb salad, black garlic hollandaise and gruyere. So very, very good.

A daisies classics — ridiculously fluffy crumpets drizzled with butter and honey. Best eaten post-swim with the salt air on the breeze.
