In an already crowded summer box office lineup, Sree Vishnu starrer #Single has quietly carved out a steady start. The Telugu romantic comedy, which was released on May 9, brought in a modest yet respectable Rs 1.96 crore gross across India on Day 1. Amongst the Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh contributed over Rs 92 lakhs and Telangana bestowed Rs 88 lakhs through online ticket sales. The total would be slightly higher if offline numbers are added, reaching nearly Rs 2 crore gross. The film grossed around Rs 3.75 crore worldwide on its opening day.
Directed by Caarthick Raju and presented by veteran producer Allu Aravind, #Single has Ketika Sharma and Love Today fame Ivana playing the female leads. #Single is built around the narrative of modern relationships and bachelorhood, with Sree Vishnu dealing with two women at the same time. The quirky one-liners, awkward dating scenarios, and loads of situational humor are the major weapons of the film. Though audiences have found some of the comic sequences between Sree Vishnu and Vennela Kishore entertaining, there is a downside too. Criticism popped in regarding those body-shaming jokes, which some say feel outdated in today’s cinema space.
Still, #Single is showing early signs of growing popularity. By Saturday noon alone, if we look at South Indian Box Office, the film sold 5.74K tickets on Book My Show. That’s more than HIT 3 (2.94K) and Retro (1.66K), though it trails behind box office giants like Thudarum (7.32K) and Tourist Family (7.1K). This jump indicates strong weekend potential, especially among younger viewers looking for lighthearted entertainment.
The coming days will reveal whether #Single finds staying power, but for now, it’s off to a steady beginning. In a season dominated by heavyweights like Thudarum and L2: Empuraan, and HIT 3 in the Summer, this modest rom-com has managed to catch a share of the spotlight. Let’s see where it lands.
