Olivia Munn Reveals Unexpected Gift John Mulaney Gave Her on Their Wedding Day

John Mulaney gave Olivia Munn an unexpected gift before she walked down the aisle. 

The couple tied the knot in a July 2024 intimate ceremony, which only included Munn’s Newsroom costar and officiant Sam Waterston and her and Mulaney’s now 3-year-old son Malcolm. But an emotional confession from Munn, 44, prior to the wedding led Mulaney, 42, to incorporate another important person into their special day. 

“Our daughter was born via surrogate because I couldn’t carry her,” Munn shared during her Wednesday, April 16 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote her new Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors. “And I was really sad, I was telling John, ‘Ahh, I wish that she was here because in the photos when she looks back on the day Mommy and Daddy got married, Malcolm will be there, but she won’t be there.’ “ 

The standup comedian took his future bride’s words to heart and found a unique way to make sure their daughter was present. 

“He found this vintage locket and he put her sonogram picture inside so that we had it on the [day],” Munn shared. “And he surprised me with that.”

Of the moment, the actress added, “It was very emotional. I know, he’s really thoughtful and sweet.”

The couple welcomed their daughter Méi in September 2024 via surrogate and have since shared several adorable photos of their little one. 

“She wakes up happy every single time she wakes up,” Munn told Clarkson of Méi. “She’s just the sweetest little girl.”

Mulaney recently revealed that his and Munn’s son Malcolm actually made a big stink during their wedding ceremony, which stole the show. 

“He actually went to the bathroom in his diaper during it and announced it mid-vows,” Mulaney shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in March. “Yeah, a very sweaty, little 2-year-old in a tuxedo just went, ‘I’m pooping.’ ” 

PEOPLE previously confirmed the couple got married over the Fourth of July weekend in 2024 in their friend’s home in New York. Only their son and a witness were in attendance for the simple, intimate ceremony, a source told PEOPLE at the time.
