Georgia Senator sounds the alarm on Social Security cuts impacting seniors

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Georgia Senator Warns Against Trump Administration’s Cuts to Social Security Services Impacting Georgia Seniors

In a news conference Thursday afternoon, Senator John Ossoff raised concerns that phone service suspension and staff reductions could have serious consequences for Georgia’s seniors.

Ossoff says the administration posted their intention to close five Social Security offices in Georgia, including the Columbus location.

About the Trump Administration, Ossoff, “They’ve recently announced a suspension of vital phone services that seniors rely upon. According to a recent report, Social Security website crashed four times in ten days this month because the servers are overloaded. Field managers and office managers have resorted to answering phones themselves because of staff shortages due to mass firings at the Social Security Administration. Same report indicates the agency no longer has a system to monitor customer experience because that office was eliminated by Elon Musk and more than 12% of staff are being terminated.”

The senator also highlighted concerns about Medicaid, emphasizing that the program covers half of all births in Georgia and supports two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes.

Despite bipartisan concerns, there has been no legislative action to protect Social Security from these cuts. The senator says they will continue to push for solutions.
