Feeney claims back-to-back Supercars poles in Melbourne

Broc Feeney has claimed back-to-back Supercars pole positions to kick off the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The Triple Eight star will start two of the four races at Albert Park in the top spot after blitzing his rivals in sudden-death qualifying sessions on Thursday.

He first overcame a red flag and outpaced teammate Will Brown with a lap time of one minute and 47.719 seconds, before shaving off 0.548 seconds to complete his sweep.

Reigning champion Brown will be fifth for the second race.

But series leader Cam Waters will languish in 22nd place for the first of four races at the Melbourne street circuit after an uncharacteristically poor outing.

Tickford Racing star Waters was an unstoppable force in the season-opening round in Sydney, claiming three race wins from three pole positions.

He will at least start the second sprint of the weekend from sixth spot.

The red flag was brought out in the first qualifying session after Dick Johnson Racing’s Brodie Kostecki ran off the track and into the gravel at the first turn.

Kostecki escaped damage and found redemption by qualifying fifth for the weekend opener with a last-gasp effort.

He qualified ninth for the second sprint of the weekend.

Matt Stone Racing’s Cam Hill will start in third and second respectively.

Blanchard Racing Team veteran James Courtney was condemned to the back of the pack after a heavy crash in practice earlier on Thursday ruled him out of qualifying.

Race four of the season gets under way at 5.50pm (AEDT), before race five at 2.50pm on Friday.
