Optus Stadium is using a state-of-the-art AI-powered vision technology to make grabbing a pie at the footy easier than ever, with a new touchless checkout terminal.
In a Western Australian first, fans attending AFL matches this season will get faster service at one of the busiest outlets – the Mrs Mac’s Pie Shop on Level one – thanks to eight Mashgin AI powered point of sale terminals which recognise products placed on the tray speeding up the process.
Optus Stadium boss Mike McKenna said the new technology was expected to reduce queues and speed up service enabling fans to get back to their seats faster.
“We want to make sure fans don’t miss a moment of the football, which is why we’re encouraging them to arrive early and be here for the first bounce,” he said.
“Fans visiting outlet 149 will be able to grab a snack or drink and pay in seconds which will mean they can get back to their seats faster than with a traditional cashier set-up.”
Those arriving early to games will also be rewarded with new ‘Beat the Bounce” deals with special offers available from the time gates open until the first bounce.

Rotating special offers will be available for each game with a number of new food options available as part of the Autumn menu.
Optus Stadium staff will be on hand to assist with the introduction of the new terminals and McKenna said the stadium team was well and truly ready to welcome AFL fans for the first home game of the 2025 season.
“We have hired an additional 500 casual staff to top up our 3,500-strong pool and are expecting to have more than 32,000 shifts worked on game days over the 23 rounds, plus an additional 20,000 shifts for set up.

“We want to make sure fans don’t miss a moment of the football, which is why we’re encouraging them to arrive early and be here for the first bounce and grab a hot deal on some of our fan favourites like the stadium cheeseburger and hot chips.”
