DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WKRG) — A strong storm roared through Dauphin Island before dawn Saturday morning. It left flooding and several damaged sites in its wake.
The most concentrated damage could be seen at the Dauphin Island Marina. At Capt’n Snapper’s Marina Bar & Grill, the storm blasted through the rear wall of the bar and caved in the ceiling of the kitchen.
LOCATION:
Debris and insulation littered what was the hub of their meal preparation. The owner says they’ll likely be closed until they can get the damage and insurance issues sorted out.
A short distance away, boat owners say the storm pulled two boats from their metal elevated slips into the water.
As of Saturday morning, one boat was still missing. A 2nd boat was tossed into the water and drifted into another slip on the other side of the marina. Its engine was heavily damaged.
Elsewhere on Dauphin Island, the storm knocked over a tree, and it landed on top of a boat and a front porch.
Another, larger tree fell in another yard, completely missing a nearby home.
At the campground, the storm tossed tents and tables outside at least one RV.
The severe weather also snapped a communications tower in two places at the Dauphin Island Public Works building.
As far as we know, no one was hurt in the storms overnight.
