Eugene and Dan Levy are passing the baton to another comedian for the 2025 Emmy Awards.
On Wednesday, April 16, CBS announced that Nate Bargatze will host this year’s ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 14.
The 46-year-old comedian said in a statement, “It’s a huge honor to be asked to host such an iconic awards show and I’m beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world.”
Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, called Bargatze “one of the hottest comics in the business” as he praised his “remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe” in the press release.
“We are thrilled to be able to leverage his one-of-a-kind perspective to entertain TV fans watching this year’s Emmy telecast,” Abrego said.

The Emmys will mark the first awards show hosting gig for the comedian, who told PEOPLE earlier this year that he feels he owes much of his success to his two hosting gigs on Saturday Night Live.
“SNL‘s really done a lot of stuff for me,” Bargatze, who hosted the show in 2023 and most recently in October, said. “I owe a lot of this to SNL, and Julia Moore Lorne [Michaels].”
Noting the “20 years” he’s spent in the business, he credited Michaels for offering him opportunities that have had a “big” impact on his career. “If you look at his history of SNL, it’s all about finding the next group and then the other group moves out and the new group comes in.”

Last year’s hosts Eugene, 78, and Dan, 41, were very much “not stand-up comics,” as Dan told PEOPLE ahead of the show, so they approached the gig “from a very different place.”
“We’re both really hard workers and we’re determined to make it as great as it can possibly be. We want to create an atmosphere that feels really welcome and celebratory. This is a huge night in so many people’s lives and we just want to be there to kind of make it as festive as possible for everybody.”
Eugene said at the time that he and his son were hoping that the show “will have enough laughs, enough charm, enough goodwill and enough love for the medium that gave both my son and myself a start in this business.”
