C’MON Gold Coast is time to raise a glass in celebration.
Locally owned craft brewery Burleigh Brewing has collected two gold medals and four silver medals at the World Beer Championships
Its Japan Black beer scored 92 points out of 100 from the judges and was graded as “exceptional” while fan favourite Bighead scored 91 points.
The Gold Coast brewer also won four silver gongs for its Cerveza, Black Giraffe, Slow Brewed Lager and Duke Premium lagers.
Burleigh Brewing CEO and co-founder, Peta Fielding, is beyond happy with the result.
“Six medals, two of them gold, I’m ecstatic,” Peta said.
“The beers are brewed right here at Burleigh Heads, so it goes to show, southeast Queensland is a standout as an alcohol producing region.
“It’s a wonderful recognition for our hard-working team.”
Burleigh Brewing was set up by husband-and-wife time Brennan and Peta Fielding in 2006. After starting with an initial team of just two people the business grew quickly and expanded.
Burleigh Brewing, which was named as the Gold Coast’s Business of the Year in 2019, now sells its products sold throughout Australia through national liquor chains.
“We started Burleigh Brewing 18 years ago, and are still independent today, so it’s a real thrill to not just mix it with some of the biggest brands in the world, but actually win,’’ Peta said.
“Bighead has been part of our core range for over 15 years and we know the Gold Coast loves it – now it’s a gold medallist.
The World Beer Championships were first run in the USA in 1994 by the Beverage Testing Institute, and reportedly regarded as one of the preeminent beer awards in the world.
Burleigh Brewing is now hoping to go Top 10 in the Great Australian Beer Spectacular (GABS) Hottest 100, to be announced on January 25.
“We’ll be hosting a countdown party at the taphouse on the day, so this is an open invite to everyone to get down there and enjoy the festivities,” Peta said.
“We’d love to see a lager take it out this year (rather than the ales that have dominated re recently), and hopefully that’s one of ours.
“Top 10 would be an amazing result.
