The Sheriff’s Office says detectives in unmarked vehicles were conducting surveillance at the 15200 block of Imagine Drive in far East El Paso.

Detectives observed an individual who was later identified as Renteria, who collected lumber from two homes that were under construction, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A traffic stop was then initiated due to a traffic violation and detectives contacted a builder at the construction site. The builder confirmed Renteria did not have permission to take the lumber and was not employed by the company, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Renteria was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail on charges of theft of property under a $1,000 bond.
